February 5, 2026
A total of 25 Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) cameras on the Mysuru-Bengaluru National Highway are catching motorists red-handed. These cameras automatically detect traffic rule-breakers using number plate technology. They capture offences like speeding, wrong-way driving, no-entry violations, not wearing seat belts, and poor lane discipline.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara shared in the Legislative Council that the system sends violation details and penalty information via SMS to vehicle owners. The cameras cover Bengaluru South district (Ramanagara), Mandya district, and Mysuru city.
From 2024 to 2025, the ITMS recorded a total of 19.27 lakh traffic offences. In 2024 alone, 13,83,861 violations led to fines totaling ₹93.75 crore. The following year saw 5,493,175 offences with penalties of ₹40.10 crore. Despite this, more than 90% of penalties are still unpaid.
Only ₹8.38 crore of fines from 2024 and ₹4.30 crore from 2025 have been collected so far. Out of the ₹133.86 crore in total fines, ₹12.69 crore is paid while a massive ₹121.16 crore is yet to be recovered.
