Dubai's City Terminal Project Lets You Check In for Flights Across the City
February 5, 2026
Dubai is launching the City Terminal Project as part of its Dubai 10X innovation plan. This project lets passengers check in for flights at various spots across Dubai, not just at the airport. Services include dropping bags, verifying documents, and issuing boarding passes before arriving at the airport. After check-in, travellers will be taken by secure transport directly to their departure terminal. This will reduce crowding at counters and speed up the travel process. Dubai International Airport handled over 24 million passengers in Q3 of 2025 alone, creating pressure on airport facilities. The City Terminal Project aims to solve this by spreading check-in activities across the city. This system will work with existing smart technologies at the airport, like biometric gates and mobile boarding. Authorities involved include Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports, airlines, Dubai Police, and immigration departments. Plans include setting up check-in points in major commercial and residential areas with connections to fast airport lanes. Airlines like Emirates already offer off-airport check-in at homes and hotels. This citywide check-in idea will reduce wait times and simplify travel. Although no exact launch date is fixed, tests and phased starts are expected soon. The City Terminal Project could change air travel in Dubai by making airport check-in a city service rather than an airport-only task, easing delays and boosting passenger comfort.
