February 5, 2026
On February 5, 2026, Rajya Sabha adopted a Motion to thank President Droupadi Murmu for her address to the Joint Session of Parliament. Amendments by Opposition MPs were defeated by voice vote as they were absent, having walked out during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reply. Earlier, BJP members reassured concerns over the India-US trade deal, calling it beneficial for India. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said even External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar lacked details of the deal and quoted former US President Donald Trump, stating agriculture and dairy products are included. BJP MP Maya Naroliya highlighted government efforts, saying ₹4 lakh crore was given to farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, and India is now the world’s largest rice producer. BJP MP Mahendra Bhatt added that the PM-Kisan scheme builds farmers’ confidence and prevents famine-like situations. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party MP Sandeep Kumar Pathak criticised the rushed voter list revision, calling it unrealistic to finish intensive work in three months that typically takes two years.
