Four-year-old Gus Lamont disappeared from Oak Park Station, a 60,000 hectare sheep station in South Australia, in September 2023. Police launched a huge search covering 100 sq km on foot and 700 sq km by air. Initially, it was believed Gus wandered off, but no trace was found. After months of investigation, police announced on Thursday that Gus never left the station and declared the case a major crime. "A person who resides at Oak Park station has withdrawn their support for police and is now a suspect," said Det Supt Darren Fielke. Police seized a vehicle, motorbike, and electronic devices in January related to the investigation. Gus's two grandmothers have hired lawyers who said, "We are absolutely devastated by the media release of SAPOL Major Crime. The family has cooperated fully with the investigation and want nothing more than to find Gus and reunite him with his mum and dad." Gus was last seen playing outside the homestead wearing a grey sun hat, blue Minion T-shirt, light grey pants, and boots. Police conducted extensive search efforts involving helicopters, drones, divers, dogs, tactical units, mounted police, and community volunteers. Despite hopes, the search shifted to a recovery operation within days. Police continue to seek information from the public and ask anyone with details to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
