ED Files Chargesheet in Money Laundering Probe at R.G. Kar Medical College
February 6, 2026
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday submitted a chargesheet in a special court in Kolkata. This is part of their investigation into alleged money laundering linked to financial irregularities at the State-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. The former principal, Sandip Ghosh, is one of the accused. He is currently in judicial remand after being arrested by the CBI for financial irregularities.
The chargesheet was filed concerning the money laundering case. Akhtar Ali, a former official at R.G. Kar Hospital, had requested a CBI inquiry into the financial irregularities during Ghosh's time as principal. The Calcutta High Court allowed this investigation, and the Supreme Court upheld it.
The ED had filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), which is like a police FIR, over the alleged money trail in the case. Notably, during Ghosh's leadership, the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor happened. Her body was found in the conference room of the hospital in North Kolkata on August 9, 2024.
In this grim case, Sanjay Roy, a former Kolkata Police volunteer, was sentenced in January 2025 by the Sealdah sessions court to life imprisonment until natural death after being found guilty.
