The Kozhikode sessions court on Friday postponed its order on the bail plea of Shimjitha Musthafa, who is accused of abetment of the ‘unnatural death’ of U. Deepak. The court set the decision for Saturday and asked the police to submit the interim investigation report immediately. Shimjitha was held in police custody on February 5 for one day for further questioning about her bus journey in Payyannur. She filed the bail plea to the sessions court after the Kunnamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court rejected it.
Meanwhile, Deepak's family alleged that the police are not properly investigating the case. They said the police have not collected statements from people who were on the bus when Shimjitha recorded a video on her mobile phone. The video allegedly shows sexual harassment of Deepak. Shimjitha, meanwhile, claimed Deepak misbehaved with her. On February 5, she told reporters, "there was no change in her petition."
Deepak was found dead at his house near Govindapuram in Kozhikode city on January 18. Police said the video was recorded by Shimjitha during a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
