A gas balloon explosion injured two people inside a lift in Mumbai's Anmol Tower late Monday. Himani Tapriya, a 21-year-old student, suffered burns on her arm, neck, and stomach. Delivery man Raju Kumar Mahato, 32, who was carrying the balloons, was also hurt. CCTV footage shows Tapriya entering the lift with a bag. Mahato then enters with a plastic bag filled with white, gold, and peach balloons. Suddenly, the balloons erupted in flames when a third person entered. The tiny lift filled with fire briefly, causing all three to rush out. Tapriya left her bag behind in the panic. Police told the Times of India that Mahato was carrying 10 to 12 balloons filled with hydrogen, not helium, ordered by Arpit Jain for a birthday party. Hydrogen gas is much more flammable, leading to the fiery accident around 10:30 pm.
