IISc Hikes Bachelor of Science Tuition Fee to ₹80,000 from 2026-27
February 7, 2026
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has announced a steep increase in tuition fees for its undergraduate Bachelor of Science (Research) programme. From the academic year 2026-27, the fee will rise from ₹10,000 to ₹80,000 per year. IISc says this new fee aligns with top-ranking Indian institutes. "The tuition fee had remained unchanged at ₹10,000 per annum since the inception of the programme in 2011," the institute said. The fee hike will also impact some PhD and master's programmes. These changes apply only to new admissions and will not affect current students. IISc said the increase will help "sustain and improve the institute’s academic programmes, resources, facilities, and other support services, to provide exceptional, well-rounded education for students at all levels." The institute also assured financial aid through tuition fee waivers and reimbursements for all reserved category and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students. Further details about admissions and timelines will be shared soon on the IISc admissions website (https://admissions.iisc.ac.in/).
