Officials reported fresh snowfall last night in the higher reaches of Gulmarg and Sonamarg tourist resorts in Ganderbal district, along with nearby regions. Early Saturday saw a slight drizzle in the valley plains. This snowfall and rain caused a sharp drop in daytime temperatures, with skies covered by dense clouds. Kashmir is now in the 20-day 'Chillai Khurd' or small cold phase that started last week, following the 40-day harsh winter period called 'Chillai-Kalan'. Next will come the 10-day 'Chillai Bachha' or baby cold phase.
