UN and US Condemn RSF Drone Attacks on Aid Convoys in Famine-Hit Sudan

Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked humanitarian aid convoys with drones in North Kordofan. At least one person died and several were wounded. The strikes hit trucks carrying food and fuel along the road between el-Obeid and Kosti. The North Kordofan government condemned the attacks and called for UN sanctions against RSF leaders.
The first drone hit three trucks in Er-Rahad at dawn, followed by a second strike in Allah Kareem damaging four vehicles, including UN relief trucks. Another strike in Um Rawaba destroyed a transport truck and a fuel tanker, causing more civilian casualties.
The Sudan Doctors Network called this a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law” and a war crime. They demanded an independent investigation and better protection for humanitarian workers.
The United States also condemned the attacks. US Senior Advisor Massad Boulos said on X: "Destroying food intended for people in need and killing humanitarian workers is sickening. The Trump Administration has zero tolerance for this destruction of life and of U.S.-funded assistance; we demand accountability and extend our condolences to all those affected by these inexcusable events and terrible war."
UN Humanitarian Coordinator Denise Brown confirmed the trucks were delivering food to displaced families near el-Obeid when attacked. She also noted an earlier drone strike this week hit a WFP facility in Blue Nile state, injuring an employee.
The conflict between Sudanese Armed Forces and RSF has lasted nearly three years, killing tens of thousands and displacing almost 11 million people. More than 21 million Sudanese now face severe food shortages, with millions needing urgent aid. Many have fled to neighboring Chad as famine spreads.
