Police Officer Martyred in Nowshera Raid Linked to Islamabad Suicide Bombing
February 7, 2026
PESHAWAR: A police officer died and a constable was wounded during a raid in the Hakeemabad area of Nowshera district. The police were hunting suspects tied to the Islamabad imambargah suicide bombing. This blast killed at least 36 people and injured many more during a Friday congregation on Islamabad's outskirts.
An official from Nowshera police stated the raid happened late at night as part of ongoing investigations. "Yes, a raid was conducted in the district and an exchange of fire took place. An assistant sub-inspector was martyred and a constable sustained injuries in the crossfire," the official confirmed but wished to remain anonymous. The operation included other law enforcement units, not just Nowshera police.
The attack targeted Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra at the city’s edge. This suicide bombing came less than three months after a blast on November 11, 2025, near Islamabad’s district and sessions court, which killed 12 people and injured over 30.
Friday’s attack is the deadliest in Islamabad since a suicide truck bomb in September 2008 killed 60 people and damaged part of the Marriott hotel.
