Temperatures on Hong Kong’s Lantau Island and some rural areas could drop to as low as 8°C (46.4°F) on Sunday morning, according to the Hong Kong Observatory. The minimum temperature in Lantau and Sai Kung areas is expected to be 8°C, with Ta Kwu Ling just a degree warmer. Urban areas might start Sunday with about 13°C and one or two light rain patches early on. However, the day will become drier with sunny spells later. Saturday afternoon temperatures dipped 5 to 7 degrees lower than Friday across much of the city. The Observatory stated, "The northeast monsoon is affecting the coast of Guangdong, and a band of clouds is covering the region." It added, "The monsoon is expected to strengthen further overnight, and temperatures will fall appreciably over the region." East to northeasterly winds will be moderate and fresh on Sunday. According to the forecast, "The minimum temperature [on Sunday] will be around 13 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories." Monday morning will be cool and windy. Temperatures are expected to rise by midweek, reaching a maximum of 24 degrees on Wednesday.
