Four Arrested in Raids Over Islamabad Imambargah Suicide Attack; Police Officer Martyred
February 7, 2026
Security forces arrested four facilitators linked to the Islamabad imambargah suicide bombing during raids in Peshawar and Nowshera on Saturday. Among those caught is the alleged Afghan mastermind tied to the banned Islamic State (IS).
The raids came from combined technical and human intelligence. They aim to find everyone involved in the suicide attack at Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra near Islamabad's outskirts. The bombing killed at least 36 people and injured many more during Friday prayers.
"Intelligence and law enforcement agencies conducted raids and made arrests in Peshawar and Nowshera," confirmed security sources.
In Nowshera’s Hakeemabad area, a late-night police operation triggered a gunfight with suspected militants. During this, an assistant sub-inspector was martyred, and a constable was injured.
The police official said, "Yes, a raid was conducted in the district, and an exchange of fire took place. An assistant sub-inspector was martyred and a constable sustained injuries in the crossfire." He added the operation was part of a continuing investigation and involved multiple agencies.
The horrific attack on the imambargah is the deadliest in Islamabad since September 2008, when a suicide truck bomb killed 60 people at the Marriott hotel. It also follows a November 2025 suicide blast near a court building in Islamabad’s G-11 area that left 12 dead and over 30 injured.
Security forces continue their hunt for others responsible for these deadly attacks, aiming to bring them to justice and restore safety.
