Expert Calls for Centralised Employment Database to Fix India's Data Gaps

In a letter to The Economic Times titled "A welcome quest," Debasish Maitra of IRMA Anand points out that simply having an employment database is not enough. "It is imperative to have a strong database. But just having a database of employment is not enough; the data has to be consistent," he said. Maitra says that data often vary between ministries and departments, showing that India's information system lacks precision and efficiency. He calls for one centralised database system that can offer consistent access to diverse groups and policymakers. "One centralised database system can address this issue which will provide access to the diverse group of people and policymakers with consistency," Maitra concluded.
