Fresh barricades were installed along the busy road below the Raidurg Metro Station. The aim is to improve pedestrian safety. The barricades force hundreds of pedestrians to pause and find designated crossing points amid heavy traffic. Some netizens complained on social media, saying the barricades block the footpath. Police officials said the move came after seeing pedestrians walking on the road dangerously, risking accidents. Madhapur Traffic Assistant Commissioner of Police, K. Chandrasheker Reddy, said, "The barricades were meant to channel pedestrian movement in a more organised and safer manner, preventing both accidents and traffic disruptions." The Raidurgam main road sees heavy foot traffic due to nearby IT parks like Mindspace, restaurants, and shops. The traffic rush is highest during office hours when many IT workers cross the road hurriedly. The barricades extend up to Mindspace's main gate, an area once crowded with autos and informal crossing points. Earlier, random crossings made pedestrians step into fast-moving traffic. The new system aims to reduce such risky moves. To understand the need, Raidurgam recorded 41 pedestrian accidents in 2025, including eight deaths. January 2026 saw four accidents with one death, and another non-fatal accident happened in early February. A video went viral on social media showing a pedestrian walking on the road, blaming the barricades for pushing people off the footpath. After this, ACP Reddy and Cyberabad Deputy Commissioner of Police Sheshadrini Reddy inspected the site on Friday. The ACP said, "The video only shows one angle and gives the impression that the barricades are the problem, which is not the case." He added that gaps have been left in the barricades to let pedestrians reach the footpath. Officials stress that the barricades are for safety, even if adjusting to them is a little tough now.
