KARACHI: A suspected robber was killed by an angry mob in Korangi on Saturday night, police said. Zaman Town SHO Rao Aurangzeb told Dawn that three suspects tried to rob people near Mutkay Wali Pull in Korangi No. 2. Locals caught one suspect, while two others escaped. The mob beat the man with sticks and other weapons, killing him on the spot. "The suspect was killed with sticks and other weapons. His identity could not be ascertained immediately, as no CNIC [card] was found in his pocket," said the SHO. The body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal procedures. Last year in May, a similar incident occurred when a suspected robber who shot two brothers during a robbery in New Karachi was lynched by a mob and the body was set on fire. Police said that suspect had tried to loot a general store in Sector-11-G and wounded shopkeepers Mohammad Faisal and Mohammad Faizan. The mob caught the suspect and beat him severely, causing his death, and some youths torched the body.
