Allahabad High Court Cancels Humiliating Placard Punishment for Noida Student
February 8, 2026
The Allahabad High Court's Division Bench has canceled a humiliating punishment given to a Noida university student. Earlier, a single Judge had ordered the student to stand at the university gate for 30 days, holding a placard stating, "I will never misbehave with any girl," for 30 minutes each day to regain admission. The student was rusticated by Noida International University in March 2023 over allegations of misbehaving with women students from another institution. The student challenged the rustication in court. On October 29, 2025, a single-Judge Bench set aside the rustication but added this unusual punishment for his reinstatement. The Division Bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Kshitij Shailendra called the punishment "unjustified" and "humiliating." They said, "A direction of such nature is not only humiliating but would also cast a permanent scar on the character of the appellant, which, in the circumstances of the case, is not called for." The court dismissed the placard order on February 4, 2026, emphasizing the harm it could cause to the student's future. This ruling shows the court's stand against punishments that damage a person's character and dignity in educational institutions.
