Manipur Police Arrest 4 Militants, Seize Mortar and IEDs Near Indo-Myanmar Border

Security forces arrested four militants from banned outfits in Manipur valley for extortion activities, police said on Sunday, February 8, 2026. On Saturday, February 7, explosives were found and seized in the Yangoubung area near the Indo-Myanmar Border in Tengnoupal district. The explosives included one mortar and two IEDs. These were destroyed in situ by a bomb disposal team.
Police arrested two members of PREPAK from Imphal East and West districts on charges of extortion. One cadre of the banned KYKL was caught from Kakching Lamkhai in Kakching district on February 7. Another member of the proscribed UNLF (K) was arrested on February 6 from Canchipur in Imphal West district.
The police stated, "Intelligence based combing, cordon and search operations are being carried out extensively to nab those involved in extortion and criminal activities in the State."
