Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary announced on Saturday that the central government has selected four tourist destinations in Udupi district for development. These are Kodi-Kanyana, Kodi-Kundapura, Barkur Port area, and Trasi-Maravanthe. One of these will be chosen for full development under the National Mission for Developing Globally Competitive Tourism Destinations. The selected spot will get renewable energy use, better infrastructure, and international promotions to attract tourists, said MP Poojary. He was speaking at a meeting in Manipal about implementing this Union Tourism Ministry mission. This mission aims to develop over 50 tourist places across India to promote sustainable and responsible tourism. The focus is on protecting natural and cultural sites while building quality facilities to attract visitors worldwide. A ₹300 crore grant is set aside by the Central Government for this project across the country. Private companies will be invited to participate, with land provided by the government. IPE Global’s Hemalatha presented the four Udupi places chosen for development. Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroop highlighted Udupi’s scenic 98 km coastline, Western Ghats' beauty, lakes, and streams as key attractions for tourists. This initiative aims to blend modern tourism with environmental care, making Udupi a global eco-tourism hotspot.
