Greater Bengaluru Authority Launches Ward-Level Climate Action Plans in Five City Corporations
February 8, 2026
M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), announced on Saturday that the authority has prepared Ward-Level Climate Action Plans for five selected wards across the city. These wards come from each of the five city corporations under GBA’s limits. The Climate Action Plans were created by the GBA Climate Action Cell with help from working groups after detailed ward-level studies. "The analysis covered energy and buildings, transportation, solid waste management, urban planning, greenery and biodiversity, water, wastewater and stormwater management, and disaster management," Mr. Rao said. The wards chosen for this pilot are Shantinagar (Central Corporation), Jakkur (North Corporation), Begur (South Corporation), Vijayanapura (East Corporation), and Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Ward (West Corporation). Mr. Rao added that similar Climate Action Plans will be made for the remaining wards in phases after conducting separate assessments. He also instructed the creation of a Technical Cell to provide scientific analysis, data-driven planning support, technical guidance, and monitoring of Climate Action projects. Furthermore, a Climate Action podcast featuring experts and stakeholders will be launched to boost public awareness about climate initiatives.
