TNPSC Cancels Group II Exam on Exam Day After Centre Confusion in Chennai
February 8, 2026
The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) cancelled the Combined Civil Services Examination-II (Group II and IIA Services) main exam scheduled for Sunday, February 8, 2026. The cancellation followed chaos when candidates in Chennai were wrongly assigned exam centres. Many candidates were not allowed to enter their allocated centres, leading to protests.
TNPSC postponed the exam without announcing a new date. Candidates will get hall ticket details via SMS and email 15 days before the rescheduled exam.
The exam was to select candidates for posts including Assistant Inspector in the Department of Labour, Junior Employment Officer in Employment and Training, Probation Officer in Social Defence, Sub Registrar in Registration, Special Branch Assistant in Greater Chennai Police, and Forester in the Forest Department.
Opposition parties sharply criticised the government. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami called the DMK “incompetent” for failing to conduct the exam properly. He said, “This is the first time a major exam was postponed on the very day it was scheduled because of hall ticket and centre confusion.” He added that some candidates wrote the exam unaware of the postponement and accused the government of hiding behind a "technical fault." Palaniswami urged candidates to keep their hopes alive and promised, “In 2026, the AIADMK government will fulfil the dreams of the youth.”
PMK leader Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss blamed the government for failing even the basic arrangements. He pointed out that over 9,000 candidates were scheduled for both morning and evening sessions but errors in allocating exam centres occurred under the watch of several senior officials. Ramadoss said, "The DMK government is functioning in a state where it is unable to conduct even the most basic competitive examination without chaos."
