Russia Arrests Second Suspect in General's Moscow Shooting, Extradited from Dubai
February 8, 2026
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested Lyubomir Korba, the second suspect involved in the shooting of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev. Korba, a Russian national, fled to Dubai just hours after the attack on Friday and was extradited back to Russia with UAE's cooperation, reports state media TASS. Alekseyev, Russia’s deputy military intelligence chief, was shot in the stairway of his Moscow apartment building. He suffered arm, leg, and chest wounds and has undergone surgery. The FSB said another accomplice was caught in Moscow, while a woman suspect fled to Ukraine. The investigation continues as Russia blames Ukraine for the attack, calling it a “terrorist act” aimed to sabotage peace talks held in Abu Dhabi. This attack is part of a series targeting high-ranking Russian officers, including bombings in December and April that killed two lieutenant generals. After the latest incident, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the capture of two villages in Ukraine’s northeast. Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, including US involvement, remain tense with no breakthrough. Ukrainian officials continue negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict, despite ongoing violence. US President Donald Trump recently set a June deadline for ending the war.
