UIDAI has completed mandatory biometric updates (MBU) for one crore school children in 83,000 schools across India. This update is crucial because children below five do not have fingerprints and iris biometrics captured during Aadhaar enrolment. These are added later, after the child turns 5 and again after 15 years, through the MBU process. Without MBU, children may face difficulties in using Aadhaar for government benefits and exams like NEET, JEE, and CUET. The UIDAI has made MBU free for children aged 7 to 15 years from October 1, 2025, for one year. This special drive started after integrating UIDAI’s system with the education database, making it easier to identify children due for updates. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has urged state officials to support focused MBU camps in schools. The campaign will continue until all schools are covered. Besides school camps, children can update their biometrics at Aadhaar centres nationwide. Over 1.3 crore MBU transactions have occurred at these centres since the drive began. "The UIDAI has crossed the milestone of completing over one crore Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBUs) for school-children studying in 83000 schools across the country," the UIDAI said in an official statement. The initiative aims to help children access government benefits and education opportunities smoothly.
