Kerala Launches Digi Kerala 2.0 to Boost Cyber Security and AI Awareness
February 8, 2026
Kerala has launched Digi Kerala 2.0, the next phase of its digital literacy programme. The new phase focuses on cyber security, Artificial Intelligence (AI) awareness, training on the Local Self-Government's K-SMART app, and digitising basic documents.
On August 21, 2025, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared Kerala the first fully digitally literate State in India. The first phase trained 21.87 lakh people to use digital devices for basic purposes.
The second phase addresses rising cyber fraud by training people to spot online threats and fraud techniques. It also promotes understanding of AI, teaching trainees how to use AI responsibly and recognize AI-generated content used to spread fake news.
The K-SMART app, launched in 2024, delivers local self-government services like building permits, civil registrations, trade licenses, and grievance redressal on one platform.
Minister M.B. Rajesh said the project aims to equip all people to access digital services independently. After Digi Kerala 2.0 training, users will operate K-SMART without help desks or intermediaries. They will also learn to digitise documents through DigiLocker.
This step strengthens Kerala's digital empowerment at the grassroots level, aiming for more people to confidently use online government services and secure their digital presence.
