February 8, 2026
On February 8, 2026, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board approved major upgrades at the holy site. These include an international Shakti Museum and cutting-edge sound and light shows to bring mythology to life. The Board spokesman said, “The proposed Shakti Museum will be the first of its kind and will serve as a religious, educational and cultural centre.” Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha, Board Chairman, led the meeting. The Board aims to turn the Shrine and nearby areas into India’s top spiritual destination.
Key steps include filling vacant posts and setting up free NEET coaching for local youth. The Board will prioritize buying from self-help groups, women, and young entrepreneurs to boost the regional economy. “The Board would source Mata’s offerings locally, channeling funds directly into community growth,” the spokesman added.
Mr. Sinha emphasized making Katra clean and modern for residents and pilgrims. Sports development across Jammu region will also be promoted to nurture future champions and keep youth healthy. Pilgrim insurance cover has doubled from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh per pilgrim for better safety.
Approval was given for a Meditation Hall—Sadhna Kaksh—at Bhawan to enrich pilgrim spirituality. Grants to institutions like Gurukul, Hospital, Sports Complex, and the College of Nursing were also approved.
Lt. Governor Sinha laid foundation stones for several new pilgrim facilities, including three temples in Reasi and restoration of two ancient temples in Jammu costing ₹1.21 crore. Bhairon Ji Temple Complex redevelopment and staff housing at Bhawan and Bhairon Ji were also announced. New cottages at Katra were inaugurated, and an enhanced Pouch Prasad with dry fruits, a special coin, and sacred Mouli was launched for pilgrims.
