SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A policeman was shot dead and two of his family members were seriously injured after unidentified armed men opened fire in Upper South Waziristan's Boya area. The martyred policeman, Constable Zahidullah Wazir, died on the spot. His father, Ghulam Nabi, and brother, Waheed, are critically injured and receiving medical treatment at DHQ Wana hospital. All belong to Shakai tehsil. Deputy Superintendent of Police Asghar Ali Shah told Dawn, "The martyred police constable was the brother of Muhammad Jan Wazir, a political moharrir of the district administration, Lower South Waziristan." He added, "The condition of the injured persons is critical; however, they are being provided immediate medical treatment." The attackers fled after the shooting. Police quickly sealed the area, gathered evidence, and started an investigation. DSP Shah said, "The family of political Moharrir Wazir had no personal enmity with anyone, and initial evidence suggested that the incident was an act of terrorism." Violence in South Waziristan remains high, with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) breaking a ceasefire in November 2022. Since then, attacks on police, security forces, civilians, and bomb blasts have increased, creating fear among local tribes and threatening peace in KP's tribal districts.
