Building Collapse in Tripoli, Lebanon Kills 6, Injures 7; Rescue Underway
February 9, 2026
A tragic building collapse in Tripoli, northern Lebanon, left at least six people dead and seven injured. The disaster happened when two adjacent buildings fell in the Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood. Abdel Hamid Karimeh, head of the municipal council, confirmed the deaths and injuries but did not disclose how many may still be trapped under rubble.
Rescue operations are ongoing. Civil defence teams, the Lebanese Red Cross, emergency groups, and local residents are all working hard to find survivors. Nearby buildings have been evacuated due to fears they might also collapse. The army and police have heavily deployed forces to manage the crisis.
Lebanon’s president, Joseph Aoun, has ordered all emergency services to be on high alert to support rescue work and provide shelter. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam promised that the government is ready to give housing allowances to people forced to leave their homes.
Salam said, "Given the magnitude of this humanitarian catastrophe, the result of years of accumulated neglect, and out of respect for the lives of the victims, I urge all those involved in politics, in Tripoli and elsewhere, to refrain from exploiting this horrific disaster for cheap and short-sighted political gains."
Lebanon faces major problems with its crumbling infrastructure. Long years of neglect, economic troubles, corruption, and damage from conflicts have worsened conditions. Issues like frequent electricity outages, unsafe water, and failing roads and buildings threaten people’s safety everyday.
