Dr Roman Yampolskiy, a top AI researcher and professor, has given a stark warning about the future of work. He said that within the next five years, almost all physical labor can be automated. This could lead to unemployment levels of up to 99 percent, far beyond anything seen before. Speaking on The Diary of a CEO, Dr Yampolskiy said, "There is not a job which cannot be automated." He stressed that unlike past technology shifts, no new human jobs will appear to replace old ones. Even creative jobs like podcasting could be done by machines faster and more accurately. Dr Yampolskiy said only a few types of jobs might survive: handmade crafts preferred by some, roles tied to human experience like counseling, regulatory oversight of AI, and specialists who help explain and use AI. He noted, "Warren Buffett would not switch to AI. He would use his human accountant." Looking ahead, Dr Yampolskiy warned society may hit the technological singularity by 2045. This is when AI advances so fast it surpasses human control or understanding. He explained, "Imagine innovation happening every second, making it impossible to keep up." He admitted even experts struggle to track AI’s pace. "Every day, as a percentage of total knowledge, I get dumber," he said. His main concern is a future where humans lose economic relevance. Dr Yampolskiy's warning urges society to prepare for a massive shift as AI reshapes the workforce and world as we know it.
