Chinese Teen Packs Massive Luggage with Military Camp Skills, Wins Praise Online
February 9, 2026
A 14-year-old boy in southern China has gone viral for carrying a huge amount of luggage on his back while waiting for a train. He Zirui, a student at Guangzhou Whampoa Military Academy Memorial Middle School, used ropes to tightly pack items like a quilt, mosquito tent, slippers, and shoes. The boy’s neat and clever luggage stacking impressed internet users across China. One said, “I admire him. Can he share his packing techniques?” while another added, “Even as an adult, I would not be able to do that.” He packed everything himself with help from his roommates pressing the bags and used a rope to bind it all together, taking 20 minutes to finish. His mother confirmed he planned the packing well, even practicing with ropes at home. She said, “He planned to put heavy things in the suitcase, while carrying light ones on his back. He also thought of which one should be hung outside, how to connect them and where to fix the rope.” The boy’s skills likely came from attending military-style summer camps. His mother praised his strong hands-on abilities, saying he could wash his socks at age two. The story was shared by People’s Daily, China’s state media, and gained over half a million likes. One online user noted, “His ‘do-it-by-myself’ ability, rather than academic scores, will give him confidence to meet any challenge in the future.”
