Hold onto your seats, folks! Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, has shouted loud and clear that he has no political ambitions. ANI, quoting Pakistan’s Jang media, reported that Munir said this during a recent stop in Brussels after his US visit. The sharp and honest general told columnist Suhail Warraich, “God has made me protector of the country. I do not desire any position other than that.” What a powerful statement! Adding more spice, he declared, “I am a soldier and my greatest desire is martyrdom.” That’s dedication at its best! Why now? This bold talk comes amidst swirling rumors about the military's grip on Pakistan’s political stage. Suhail Warraich’s Saturday column revealed that Munir crushed gossip about any plans to change Pakistan’s President or Prime Minister. The general said in his Brussels meeting and the chat with Warraich, “the rumours about the change are completely false.” Munir stressed that these rumors don’t come from the military or government but from forces trying to shake Pakistan's stability. That’s not all! Munir also sent a clear message to India and Afghanistan. He warned that Pakistan will hit back if peace is disturbed by proxy groups or if Afghan Taliban cross into Pakistan. He explained, “We have shown kindness and favours to Afghans for years, but instead of repaying them, a conspiracy is being hatched against us in collaboration with India.” Ouch! That’s a strong call for caution. Turning from politics to the treasure beneath, Munir spotlighted Pakistan’s rich mineral resources. Speaking to Daily Jang, he revealed a bright economic future ahead, especially through the Reko Diq mining project. He predicted Pakistan could rake in at least USD 2 billion every year starting next year, with more profits pouring in later. Imagine what this could do for Pakistan’s debt and prosperity! On the foreign front, Munir showed balance and wisdom. He said, “We will not sacrifice one friend for the other,” when talking about Pakistan’s ties with the US and China. That’s a diplomatic dance Pakistan wants to keep steady. So, there you have it! General Asim Munir – no political dreams, a protector soldier ready to serve with honor, warning neighbors, and eyeing big economic winds to lift Pakistan higher.
