Chinese electronics brands Insta360 and Vivo are gearing up to compete with DJI in the gimbal-stabilized camera market. Insta360, a strong competitor to GoPro, is preparing a new handheld gimbal camera to take on DJI’s popular Pocket series. The launch could happen in the first half of this year, sources said. Meanwhile, smartphone maker Vivo has approved plans for a “vlog camera” aimed at the same DJI lineup. It is also expected to launch this year, Chinese media outlet Jiemian reported. Vivo has filed patents for this new camera. The designs include a retractable lens system that allows quick use and a rotating screen to lighten the device’s weight, according to Tianyancha business records. Experts note that while Insta360 and Vivo are set to challenge DJI, the big test will be building a content ecosystem that matches DJI’s established user base and software support. Neither Insta360 nor Vivo responded immediately to requests for comment.
