SHRC orders Kochi Corporation to take charge of traffic signals and fix faults urgently
February 10, 2026
The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has ordered the transfer of traffic signal and camera operations from Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML) to Kochi Corporation. SHRC Chairperson Alexander Thomas instructed the Principal Secretary and Principal Director of the Local Self-Government Department (LSGD) about this change. The Commission also asked the Corporation to fix the malfunctioning traffic signals at Kadavanthra and Vyttila rapidly, with assistance from Keltron. The LSGD Principal Secretary has been told to direct the Corporation secretary accordingly. A report on repair progress must be submitted to the Commission before the March 3 meeting at Pathadipalam PWD Rest House. This directive comes from a suo moto case the Commission started after a newspaper reported that the traffic light at Vyttila Junction was not working.
