The Allahabad High Court on February 9, 2026, quashed criminal cases against office-bearers of a Lucknow Resident Welfare Association (RWA). The case arose from a parking dispute in the “Celebrity Greens” housing society. Police had charged the RWA leaders with extortion and criminal intimidation based on a complaint from a resident claiming to be an RSS trustee. The resident described himself as a B.Tech graduate and entrepreneur. The court noted the RWA acted within its rights, following a general body resolution to set parking rules and prevent traffic problems. Justice Pankaj Bhatia said, “With great powers come great responsibility. The Opposite Party No. 2 has clearly not gained responsibilities with the great powers that have come his way, as claimed by him.” The court also highlighted misuse of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's respected name by the complainant. It called RSS “a highly disciplined and respected cultural organisation” and said the organisation's name was wrongly used in this case. “The Court is not well equipped to go any further with regard to the acts of Opposite Party No. 2 in misusing the name of a respected cultural organisation,” the judgment added. The ruling puts an end to the criminal proceedings against the RWA office-bearers in this matter.
