Three Kidnapped Miners Found Dead in Mexico's Sinaloa Mine, Vizsla Silver Confirms
February 10, 2026
Three of ten miners kidnapped last month from a silver mine in Sinaloa, Mexico, have been found dead, the Mexican mining chamber Camimex confirmed on Monday. The victims—Ignacio Aurelio Salazar, Jose Angel Hernandez, and Jose Manuel Castaneda—were confirmed dead by local authorities. Camimex called for a thorough investigation saying, “We ask that the absolute priority remains locating our coworkers who are still missing alive so they can return home with their families, where they belong.” The miners were taken at the end of January from the Panuco silver mine run by Vancouver-based Vizsla Silver Corp, located in an area reportedly controlled by the Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa cartel, led by the sons of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Vizsla Silver’s CEO Michael Konnert expressed devastation, saying, “We are devastated by this outcome and the tragic loss of life.” The company is focused on the safe recovery of the remaining missing workers and supports the families affected. The Panuco mine remains closed, and Vizsla Silver’s shares fell nearly 6% in Monday trading. Mexican authorities recovered at least one body in a clandestine grave in Concordia, matching one of the missing miners, and have deployed more than 1,000 troops including elite marines to the area to search for others. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. Relatives of four kidnapped miners said they had not been asked for ransom but noted the region is dangerous due to local crime groups. Officials promised to investigate the cause and expressed hope that such incidents will not happen again.
