On February 9, 2026, the Delhi High Court asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to respond to a bail extension request by Jaideep Sengar. He is the brother of expelled Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kuldeep Sengar. Jaideep sought a three-month extension of his interim bail in a custodial death case involving the father of the Unnao rape survivor. Jaideep Sengar, sentenced to 10 years in prison by the trial court, said his interim bail was expiring on February 11. He said he suffers from stage IV oral cancer, a life-threatening condition, and needs continuous specialized medical care. He also said he has clinical signs of cancer recurrence. The court noted that Jaideep has spent about four years in custody. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma issued notice on the plea and scheduled the next hearing for February 11. Kuldeep Sengar was convicted on December 20, 2019, for raping a minor girl in 2017 and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Jaideep and Kuldeep were also sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by a Delhi trial court on March 13, 2020, in the case related to the custodial death of the rape survivor’s father. The father was arrested allegedly on the accused's behest and died in custody on April 9, 2018, reportedly due to police brutality. Appeals against the trial court’s judgment by both brothers are still pending in the Delhi High Court.
