Humanoid robots may one day work in factories, but for now, they are hitting the party scene in China. Botshare, known as Qingtianzu or "Optimus rent," launched a service that lets people rent humanoid robots for 999 yuan (about $145) to dance, perform, and pose at events. The service started just before Valentine’s Day and the Lunar New Year. Shanghai-based Agibot, the main backer of Botshare, put on a pre-recorded "robot gala" featuring robots singing, dancing, acting, and doing kung fu to promote the new offering. Customers can book their robot act through a WeChat mini programme for occasions like birthdays, Valentine’s dates, and parties. The robots, including Agibot’s small X2 and full-sized A2 models, wear themed costumes and are programmed to match the event’s mood with dance moves, gestures, and interactive routines. The rental costs 999 yuan for a 90-minute session, with an engineer present to set up and adjust the machines. This service is currently limited to cities including Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou. Botshare started in December and brands itself as a “robot-as-a-service” platform. This move aims to find real commercial uses for humanoid robots, which have yet to reach their full industrial potential.
