US Military Strikes Boat in Eastern Pacific, Kills Two; One Survivor Found
February 10, 2026
The US military struck a boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Monday, killing two people. One person survived the attack. The US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) says the strike targeted a vessel involved in drug trafficking, but did not share proof. "Two narco-terrorists were killed and one survived the strike. Following the engagement, US SOUTHCOM immediately notified U.S. Coast Guard to activate the Search and Rescue system for the survivor," the military said. This is the latest in a series of attacks the US has carried out on vessels in the region. Since early January, the US has conducted three attacks on boats after its forces took Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro during a raid. Media and monitoring groups say the US has made about 37 attacks against 39 boats in the eastern Pacific and Caribbean, killing at least 130 people. The US has not shared details on the survivor's medical status or chances of rescue. Despite criticism from legal experts and regional leaders of ‘‘extrajudicial killings,’’ the US continues its operations near Latin America. SOUTHCOM released a short video showing the strike. A small motorised boat is seen in the crosshairs before an explosion hits it. Parts of the boat remain after the blast, but it slows down.
