Opposition to Move Resolution Against Speaker Om Birla Over Speech Block and MP Suspensions
February 10, 2026
The opposition is thinking about giving a notice to remove Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. This is because he stopped Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders from speaking during the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. Eight MPs were also suspended. Both Houses will continue discussions on the Union Budget today, February 10, 2026.
Meanwhile, BJP’s women MPs have asked Mr. Birla to take strong action against opposition MPs. They called their acts "heinous," saying they moved deep into treasury benches, climbed on tables, and laid siege to the Prime Minister’s seat.
On February 9, 2026, Mr. Gandhi and some others met Mr. Birla to try to end the stalemate. The House has not been working well since Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to speak about the India-China issue last week.
