On January 10, Malaysian police faced a stand-off with a Singapore-registered car driving the wrong way at the Johor Bahru land checkpoint near the Sultan Iskandar Building immigration complex. Dashcam footage shows the vehicle going against traffic inside the complex. A police officer approached, gestured to the driver, and knocked on the car window. The car reversed and attempted to move forward several times. During the tense encounter, one officer drew his firearm while another hit the car’s bonnet with a traffic cone to stop it breaking through the checkpoint. No shots were fired. The car eventually sped away, and it is unclear if the driver was caught. A Malaysian home ministry official confirmed the incident happened last month, The Star reported. On social media, some users called for shooting the driver’s tyres and installing crash barriers for safety. One user said, “Should do this in Singapore customs. See how Singapore handles it. I believe all the crash barriers will lift up immediately.” Others questioned the driver’s recklessness: “WTF is wrong with these people? More idiots coming out of the closet.” This incident follows similar viral events, including a 16-year-old arrested after a high-speed chase in Kuala Terengganu while driving his brother’s car without permission.
