Violence erupted in Manipur's Ukhrul district on February 10, 2026. Armed men set fire to abandoned houses and fired several shots in the Litan Sareikhong area. The police said the situation is tense and security forces are working to control it. The Manipur government suspended internet services, including broadband, VPN, and VSAT, in Ukhrul for five days as a safety measure. Locals who fled their homes confronted security forces about failing to stop the violence. A viral video showed thick smoke covering the hills. Hundreds of Kuki and Tangkhul Naga villagers, mostly women, children, and elderly, have been escaping to safer places in Kangpokpi and Ukhrul districts. An official said, "Several villagers have taken shelter at Motbung and parts of Saikul in Kuki-majority Kangpokpi district." Manipur minister Govindas Konthoujam said on February 9 that at least 21 houses were burned and the situation was still tense. More security forces were sent to the area. Two drivers stranded at Lamlai Chingphei Kuki village after their trucks broke down were rescued on February 9. Two Tangkhul Naga groups, Katho Long and Katho Katamnao Long, have banned Kukis from moving in Ukhrul and nearby Kamjong district.
