Bail Plea of Shimjitha Musthafa in U. Deepak Death Case Delayed Again by Kerala Court
February 10, 2026
The Kozhikode Principal Sessions Court has postponed the decision on Shimjitha Musthafa's bail plea in the U. Deepak death case. Shimjitha faces abetment charges after accusing Deepak of sexual misconduct on a bus in Kannur, Kerala. On February 10, 2026, Judge V S. Bindhukumari asked for another police report to decide if Shimjitha's custody should continue for further investigation. The court will give its bail order on February 11, 2026.
Shimjitha was held for one day for police interrogation and to check evidence. Another woman from the same video footage filed a complaint, saying Shimjitha's Instagram post violated her privacy and demanded removal. The Medical College police registered the case under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, following a complaint from Deepak’s parents.
Shimjitha claimed Deepak touched her inappropriately on a bus on January 16, 2026. Deepak was found dead at his home in Kozhikode two days later. Shimjitha was arrested from Vadakara on January 21, just before police planned a lookout notice. Her earlier bail request was rejected by the Kunnamangalam Judicial Magistrate’s Court, which feared she might tamper with evidence or influence witnesses. The prosecution opposed bail, warning it could encourage social media influencers to interfere and publicly shame individuals.
Shimjitha remains in judicial custody at Manjeri sub-jail in Malappuram as the trial continues.
