The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, stayed a Sambhal court's FIR against several policemen, including former Sambhal circle officer Anuj Kumar Chaudhary. The FIR was linked to an alleged case of police firing into a crowd. Justice Samit Gopal passed the stay order while hearing a petition by Mr. Chaudhary. The FIR was ordered on January 9 by the Sambhal chief judicial magistrate (CJM). After the stay, the court set the next hearing for February 24. The case began with a complaint from Yameen. He approached then CJM Vibhanshu Sudheer, who allowed the application under Section 173(4) of the BNSS. Yameen claimed that on November 24, 2024, around 8.45 a.m., his son Alam was selling rusks and biscuits on his thela near Jama Masjid, Mohalla Kot in Sambhal. Suddenly, some policemen fired into the crowd with the intent to kill. Sambhal Kotwali in-charge Anuj Kumar Tomar and Anuj Chaudhary were named in the petition. In an 11-page order, CJM Sudheer said police cannot hide behind "official duty" to cover criminal acts. Referring to Supreme Court rulings, he clarified that firing on people is not part of official duties. The CJM found a prima facie cognizable offense and said a proper investigation is needed to find the truth.
