Pakistan has decided to play against India in the T20 World Cup after over a week of talks and deadlock. This ends one of the biggest crises in recent cricket history. The problem began when the BCCI told Kolkata Knight Riders to drop Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL squad on January 3. This happened amid tense India-Bangladesh relations. The next day, Bangladesh’s cricket board refused to send its team to play in India for safety reasons. Bangladesh asked the ICC to move their World Cup games to Sri Lanka. After two weeks of talks failed, the ICC removed Bangladesh and replaced them with Scotland on January 24. Pakistan quickly supported Bangladesh and called the ICC’s decision unfair. A week later, Pakistan announced it would boycott the match against India to show solidarity with Bangladesh. The ICC warned Pakistan against boycotting but started talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board. PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi met with BCB chairman Aminul Islam and ICC officials, asking for several demands related to Bangladesh. On Monday, the ICC said talks were positive and assured that Bangladesh would face no penalties. The ICC also promised to host an event in Bangladesh between 2028 and 2031. Soon after, Pakistan’s government ordered the cricket team to play India on February 15, ending the boycott. The India-Pakistan matches are cricket’s biggest draws, with huge TV audiences and revenue, making this resolution crucial for the sport.
