The Food Safety Department, along with Legal Metrology officials, raided 16 food outlets in Guntur on Tuesday. They seized large amounts of stale food and sweets across 12 restaurants, two sweet shops, and two bakeries. State Joint Food Controller N. Purnachandra Rao said these raids are part of strict checks to ensure food safety and law compliance. The inspected places included well-known names like Gongura Restaurant, Bismillah Restaurant, Mayura Family Restaurant, Swagat Delight, and others. Officials seized 48 kg of cooked stale food from Bismillah Restaurant, 26 kg from Swagat Delight, 5 kg from Gongura Restaurant, and 26 kg of stale sweets from Sairam Food Sweets. Five notices were issued to food businesses to improve hygiene, infrastructure, and follow food safety rules. One outlet was also warned for operating without a valid licence. Additionally, 19 food samples were collected for lab tests amid concerns about unauthorized colours and impurities. The raids involved top officials from Food Safety and Legal Metrology departments, with around 20 personnel taking part. This strict action highlights efforts to keep Guntur's food outlets safe and clean for consumers.
