Aardman Studios' Wallace & Gromit Exhibition Opens in East London
February 11, 2026
The Aardman Studios’ exhibition "Inside Aardman: Wallace & Gromit and Friends" has opened at the Young V&A in East London. It showcases original models, storyboards, and sketches from the famous stop-motion pioneers. The exhibition runs until 25 November and celebrates Aardman’s 50 years of animation magic.
Visitors will see early character designs, including a Wallace resembling Hitler and a fanged, talking Gromit, before their looks were softened. Over 150 items are on display, including rare sets and puppets, some saved from a 2005 fire that destroyed many originals.
The show recreates the studio experience and invites children to make their own stop-motion films using Playmobil figures. They can also experiment with sound effects using everyday objects. Interactive setups show how lighting changes can alter scenes, deepening visitor understanding.
Co-founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton began making models in school in the 1960s. Their first hit, Chicken Run, became the highest-grossing stop-motion film ever. Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep remain beloved characters worldwide.
The exhibition highlights the detailed craftsmanship behind Aardman’s work. Animators create just seconds of footage daily, blending hands-on techniques with modern digital tools. The studio’s charm lies in its mix of technology and a homespun feel.
This vibrant exhibition is a treat for fans and a creative spark for kids, offering a rare peek behind the scenes of one of UK cinema’s most beloved studios.
