US Imposes New Sanctions on Lebanese Gold Firm Linked to Hezbollah
February 11, 2026
The United States government has hit Lebanon's gold company Jood SARL with sanctions for supporting Hezbollah. The Trump administration said the firm helps Hezbollah convert its gold reserves into usable cash. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, “Hezbollah is a threat to peace and stability in the Middle East.” He added Treasury aims to “cut these terrorists off from the global financial system to give Lebanon a chance to be peaceful and prosperous again.”
Jood SARL works under al-Qard al-Hassan (AQAH), a Hezbollah-linked group already sanctioned by the US. Treasury officials said AQAH set up companies to trade gold in Lebanon and abroad to keep Hezbollah’s funds flowing. This comes as gold prices hit record highs above $5,000 per ounce.
The US sanctioned several individuals and shipping firms on Tuesday, blocking their US assets and making it illegal for Americans to do business with them. Despite hard hits by Israeli military actions in 2024 that killed many Hezbollah leaders and destroyed many Lebanese villages, Hezbollah spent millions after November 2024 to help Lebanese families with temporary housing.
However, Israel continues daily attacks on Lebanon and blocks rebuilding efforts in the south, keeping thousands displaced. Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry reported 2,036 Israeli ceasefire violations to the UN in late 2025.
While the US piles on sanctions against Hezbollah, it has not asked Israel to stop its attacks. Hezbollah also rejects Lebanon government calls to disarm, claiming it must resist Israeli “expansionism.”
