Egypt's Parliament Approves Economic-Focused Cabinet Reshuffle with 13 New Ministers
February 11, 2026
Egypt’s parliament has approved a cabinet reshuffle proposed by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to strengthen the country's economy. The reshuffle brings 13 new ministers to important economic roles. These include ministers for housing, higher education, planning, investment, and foreign trade. A new position, deputy prime minister for economic affairs, has also been created. Key posts like foreign affairs and defense have not changed. Ahmed Rostom, a World Bank economist, was named minister of planning. Mohamed Farid Saleh, head of the Financial Regulatory Authority, will lead the Ministry of Investment. The State Ministry of Information was restored after being dissolved in 2021, with Diaa Rashwan appointed as minister. Two women joined the new cabinet: Randa al-Menshawi as housing minister and Gihane Zaki as culture minister. Egypt’s economy has struggled with years of austerity after a 2016 IMF program, the COVID-19 pandemic, and recent conflicts affecting trade routes and revenues. Attacks on Red Sea shipping have reduced Suez Canal income, a major source of foreign currency. The new government is expected to be sworn in on Wednesday, according to local reports.
