Trump Hints at Sending Second Aircraft Carrier as US-Iran Talks Resume
February 11, 2026
US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he may send a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East. This comes as the US and Iran prepare to hold new talks to avoid conflict. Last week, Oman helped hold talks that showed promise for continuing diplomacy. Trump already sent one aircraft carrier to the region. "Either we reach a deal or we’ll have to do something very tough," Trump told Israel’s Channel 12. The exact date and place for the next US-Iran talks are not yet known. Trump told Channel 12 and Axios he is considering sending the USS George Washington or USS George H.W. Bush to the Middle East. Both are at least a week away. The Pentagon might also send the USS Ford from the Caribbean. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the talks showed "understanding and consensus to continue" discussions. Ali Larijani, advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, visited Oman and will soon visit Qatar, another mediator in the region. Oil prices fell as traders watched the US-Iran tensions. Satellite images reveal growing military build-up in the Middle East, especially at the US base in Qatar. Larijani and Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq talked about reaching a “balanced and just” deal to promote peace. The US wants talks to cover Iran’s nuclear program and missile program. Iran says its missile stockpile is not open for negotiation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet Trump on Wednesday to push for missile limits in any deal. Baghaei said the US should act "independently of foreign pressures, especially Israeli pressures." Iran demands the lifting of financial sanctions and the right to enrich uranium. The US wants Iran to stop enriching uranium beyond a point near weapons grade. Iran’s Atomic Energy chief said diluting 60% enriched uranium depends on all sanctions being lifted. US Vice-President J.D. Vance said Trump will decide the "red lines" in talks. Talks last year broke down mainly over uranium enrichment. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful.
