US, France, Switzerland Oppose Israel's West Bank Annexation Move
February 11, 2026
Several Western nations, including the US, France, and Switzerland, oppose Israel’s recent move to strengthen control over the West Bank. On Monday, Israel’s security cabinet allowed Jewish settlers to directly buy West Bank land and expanded control over Palestinian Authority areas.
A Trump administration official said, “As the president has clearly stated, he does not support Israel annexing the West Bank.” The official added, “A stable West Bank keeps Israel secure and is in line with this administration’s goal to achieve peace.”
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the decision damages the chance for a two-state solution. He stated that all Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, “have no legal validity and constitute a flagrant violation of international law.” He called the actions unlawful and destabilizing.
France condemned the decision as “contrary to international law” and a dangerous challenge to peace agreements. The French foreign ministry said the measures “represent a serious attack on the two-state solution” and threaten to raise tensions.
Switzerland also said Israeli settlements are “illegal under international law.”
Meanwhile, the Arab League Council will meet today at Palestine’s request to discuss responses to Israel’s growing West Bank occupation.
On Tuesday, the Israeli army began demolishing Palestinian homes near Jenin. Three homes of two Palestinian families in Barta’a were destroyed for lacking building permits. Israeli forces also raided shops and assaulted young men in nearby Ya’bad.
In Silwan town, four Palestinians were injured during demolition. Israeli forces tore down walls and a building material store, detaining two people. These actions have heightened tensions in the occupied West Bank.
