Philippines Eyes Legal Action After Viral Assault on Filipino Worker in Singapore
February 11, 2026
A shocking video from Singapore shows a man kicking a Filipino woman worker. The assault was caught on social media. The suspect first confronts the woman, then kicks her, making both fall. He quickly kicks her face again. Bystanders rush to help and throw a shopping basket at him. It is unclear if the basket hit the man. Hans Cacdac, secretary of Manila’s Department of Migrant Workers, confirmed their labour attaché in Singapore identified the woman and contacted her. "Our migrant workers office labour attaché in Singapore is already in discussions, but we are currently still determining the exact cause of the incident," Cacdac told GMA News. "Of course, medical assistance is the primary priority and regarding the filing of the complaint, our lawyer stands ready to assist her." He said the Philippines is considering legal action. "It’s assault, physical assault. It’s a crime anywhere in the world, especially in Singapore," he added. The video triggered anger online. Many called for strict punishment of the attacker. Some suggested the attack might involve a personal dispute. One social media user said, "He has no right to hurt a woman. I hope that man will be locked up." About 200,000 Filipinos work in Singapore, mostly as household helpers. Singapore is one of the safest cities for women in Asia. Despite this, it has seen some cases involving migrant workers. In 2014, a blog attacking Filipinos sparked strong condemnation from Singapore officials. Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin said such hateful messages "do not reflect who we are as a people."
